Patrick Mahomes has "built a great friendship" with Taylor Swift

The 29-year-old NFL star - who plays with the 'Bad Blood' hitmaker's boyfriend Travis Kelce for the Kansas City Chiefs - has loved having her at the games, and he's grateful he and wife Brittany have been able to get to know her properly

Speaking at a Super Bowl press conference this week, he told reporters in a clip shared by KMBC 9 News: "Taylor being at all the games has been awesome."

He added: "Now, I just know Taylor better now and I feel like I've built a great friendship with her. And my wife and Taylor have a built a friendship as well."

Patrick also reflected on how Taylor being at games is even having a wider impact on the sport.

He explained: "It's been awesome to showcase her bringing light to the game that I love, and getting little girls like my daughter interested and watching the game."

And he suggested society as a whole could learn a lesson from how everything has played out.

He said: "It's cool to see how football can bring people together from every aspect of life. I feel like that's a metaphor for the rest of life as well."

On February 9, the Chiefs are taking on the Philadelphia Eagles in the Super Bowl, and Taylor is expected to be in New Orleans to support her man.

Travis' brother Jason, who also plays for the team, told PEOPLE: "I think everybody's coming in [for the game]. I mean, I don't want to speak for everybody, but I think, obviously, our whole family.

"I believe, obviously Trav and Taylor, and his family and his friends. I mean, Trav always travels, like, full."

Jason went on to insist Travis is always supported by a full circle of friends and family at every game.

He added: "Even when he's in regular season mode ... he's always got a bunch of his friends there. It's been this way his whole career.

"He's kept in touch much better with a lot of the people from our hometown. So there's always a loaded contingency for the Kelces, wherever we're at."
