The death of a three-year-old girl in Northland's Kaikohe on Wednesday evening remains unexplained

Police went to the address on Taraire Street where the girl was initially found unresponsive.

Detective Inspector Rhys Johnston says a scene examination continues and they expect results from a post-mortem tomorrow.

He says they have a team of 20 working the case, supported by staff from other districts given the number of serious matters being investigated.
