Ryan Fox has come tantalisingly close to making the cut at The Open golf major at Royal Portrush

The New Zealand men's number one needed an eagle on the 18th hole to safely make it through to the weekend - his second shot from 178 yards out from the pin bouncing just over the hole, on Sky Sport.

Fox carded a second-round two-under par 69 to move to two-over overall, one shot below the cut line.

Compatriot Daniel Hillier also missed the cut at two-over overall, after his round of two-over par 73.

World number one Scottie Scheffler is the clubhouse leader at 10-under, one shot ahead of Englishman Matt Fitzpatrick.
