    Footage has been shown in court today of Loafers Lodge residents discovering the fire which destroyed their hostel in 2023


    A 50-year-old man is on trial, accused of murdering the five who died in the Wellington blaze.

    He's also charged with two counts of arson.

    CCTV clips have shown of residents convening after an earlier fire was extinguished, and others finding the later deadly blaze before scrambling to escape. Audio of a witness's 111 call as he tried to escape was also played, but was so distressing the witness had to leave the courtroom.
