A Kaitaia woman's been sentenced for her role in an international website hosting scam

A Kaitaia woman's been sentenced for her role in an international website hosting scam

Open Justice reports Kimberley Dow was working for Webnetic Trendz Technologies in 2023 and instructed to open four bank accounts in her name.

When clients paid she was to keep 10-12-percent and transfer the remainder.

Four victims received phone calls from strangers posing as employees of legitimate web hosting companies.

They were then scammed over different website fees, and sent fake invoices requesting payment to Dow's accounts.

She was found guilty of 10 charges relating to money laundering and receiving property.

Dow was sentenced to six months' community detention and ordered to pay reparation.
