Marion Cotillard feels "hurt" by comments about her appearance

The 49-year-old actress fears she's "judged all the time" by strangers and she tries not to let herself feel down about their remarks, but she sometimes struggles to deal with the negativity when it's focused on the way she looks.

She told The Sunday Times newspaper: "I am judged all the time by people who don't know me. This is a very big thing in my life, the judgment.

"And I think, no, I shouldn't be hurt by people who do not know me. But ... [It's] about almost everything. The way I dress, make-up, hair.

"The way you behave on a day you were not in a good mood but somebody was intrusive and your reaction was: 'Leave me alone!'

"And sometimes it can hurt. If you are struggling in your life?"

The Oscar-winner went on to reference a remark made by late actor Robin Williams - who took his own life in 2014.

She said: "There was this beautiful sentence, by Robin Williams. He said we should be kind to people, because you don't know what they're going through.

"Because we all go through s***, and through difficult moments without sharing how difficult it actually is.

"People say: 'Oh my God, she's so skinny!' Yeah? Well, maybe there is something in her life that keeps her from eating well.

"You shouldn't judge her. 'Oh my God! Her legs are terrible' F*** you."

Marion is mother to two children, son Marcel and daughter Louise, with her former partner Guillaume Canet, who she split from earlier this year after almost two decade together.

During the interview, the actress insisted she tries her best to keep her children safe in the social media age, saying: "My son is 14. He's started to discover social media, and how to get information and fake news is a major topic in our family.

"You can believe all kinds of s***. It can really harm you. In France we're very judgmental. But the world is more and more like that too now, and it's an area I want to be very careful with my kids."
