A Wellington man was shot by police, arrested, and hospitalised after a standoff in Wadestown over the weekend

A Wellington man was shot by police, arrested, and hospitalised after a standoff in Wadestown over the weekend

Police were called to Anne St after 12.30pm yesterday, following reports of someone with a large bladed weapon attempting to steal a vehicle.

He allegedly damaged the property when challenged, hiding in the house when police arrived.

Pepper spray and tasers were used before an officer fired once.

He was arrested almost two hours later, and treated in hospital for a police dog bite, and a superficial shoulder injury believed to be from the shot.
