Auckland Airport is dealing with fewer passengers, but far more lobsters

Auckland Airport is dealing with fewer passengers, but far more lobsters

    Air New Zealand
    Air New Zealand
Emirates has joined Air New Zealand in agreeing to suspend any new flight bookings to New Zealand for the next three weeks.

But there's been a sharp rise in the number of lobsters going through the airport.

The latest air cargo data from Auckland Airport shows more than 300 tonnes of live lobsters were air-freighted to China in May -- up 53% on the same month last year.

Demand from Chinese consumers has as been surging, as restaurants reopen following lockdowns.
