A retail group says Foodstuffs' sudden crime spike is being felt throughout the sector

The North Island branch says its retail crime has doubled in two years across its New World, Pak'n'Save and Four Square outlets.

Retail NZ chief executive Carolyn Young says since the Covid lockdowns, customers have been more aggressive and violent.

She says retailers are eager to see the outcome of Foodstuffs' facial recognition trial.
