Chris Hipkins could be facing an uphill battle in trying to get a new tax policy over line

Speaking with Kerre Woodham, the Opposition Leader confirmed they would run a policy of having some sort of 'tax on capital', if they return to power in 2026.

He says Labour will have quite a different policy, which will involve broadening the New Zealand tax base.

Political editor Jason Walls, says Labour hasn't been able to get one over the line, and Jacinda Ardern also opposed it.

He says they had a tax working group lead by Sir Michael Cullen, who decided they should have a capital gains tax, but Ardern went against their advice.
