An Auckland local board may decide the future of a popular pool facility today, in a closed-door session

An Auckland local board may decide the future of a popular pool facility today, in a closed-door session

A council report has suggested Newmarket's Olympic Pool and Fitness Centre could close for a year, in 2026, to fix seismic and structural issues.

The Waitemata Local Board delayed its decision last week until 2pm today.

Pool Director, Peter Rust, says the only reason to close, is to save money for the upstairs cinema owners.

He says he can't see why pool users come as a second priority.
