Dozens of marine medics and hundreds of members of the public are being credited, with helping save a pod of whales at Northland's Ruakaka Beach

Dozens of marine medics and hundreds of members of the public are being credited, with helping save a pod of whales at Northland's Ruakaka Beach

Whale rescue organisation Project Jonah was called to the mass stranding of up to 40 pilot whales yesterday afternoon.

Three adult whales and a calf died, but the others were re-floated.

Mike from the Ruakaka Beach Front Motel says hundreds of people turned out to help.
