The Backstreet Boys would love to perform the Super Bowl Halftime Show in 2027

The chart-topping group - which consists of Nick Carter, Howie Dorough, AJ McLean, and cousins Brian Littrell and Kevin Richardson - previously declined the opportunity to headline at the Super Bowl in 2001, but they'd now jump at the chance to perform in Los Angeles in 2027.

Speaking during their recent show at the Las Vegas Sphere, AJ asked the crowd: "What do you guys think? Backstreet Boys: 2027 Super Bowl Halftime? Let's make it happen!

"I mean, why not? It's in Los Angeles, it's right down the street."

The 2027 Super Bowl is being held at SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles. But the group previously declined the chance to headline the Super Bowl in 2001, opting to sing the US national anthem instead.

Nick told Entertainment Tonight in 2021: "At the time, we loved the Whitney Houston rendition of the national anthem. And for us, we got the choice and we passed on the halftime.

"But it was a memorable experience for everyone, and I like to say we did a really good job at the national anthem."

Meanwhile, Kevin previously confessed that the Backstreet Boys drifted apart as their success grew in the 90s.

The 54-year-old singer explained that the band's members "retreated from one another" as their global fame and popularity increased.

Kevin - who quit the group to pursue other endeavours in 2006, before returning in 2012 - told the group's YouTube channel: "All of our dreams were coming true and we were all tripping out inside, and instead of coming closer and closer, entirely together, we almost retreated from one another to get that space.

"And our bond wasn't as tight in those moments as it could've been."

Despite this, Kevin thinks the time they spent apart has proven to be beneficial.

He said: "We had to go away from each other to once again find that individuality.

"That had to happen to create that group that we are to come back to each other."
