The Breakers are pushing for New Zealand to become a hub for the next Australian Basketball League season

The Breakers are pushing for New Zealand to become a hub for the next Australian Basketball League season

There's a chance the December start date could be pushed to February due to the resurgence of covid-19 across the Tasman.

Breakers owner Matt Walsh concedes they're looking at the Gold Coast as a base if they have to move.

However, he's clinging to a possibility they could play their home games at the start or end of the competition and says a number of teams are also looking at making New Zealand cities their home.

Peter Miskimmin has resigned as chief executive of Sport New Zealand after 12 years in the role - the two-time hockey Olympian will step down on December 11.

His tenure has coincided with an unprecedented and steady growth of Olympic and Paralympic medals and he oversaw the spin off of a high performance arm to the government sector in 2011.

Two-time Rugby World Cup winner Phil Kearns will head Australia's 2027 tournament bid.

The 67-capped Wallaby leads a team that includes former Prime Minister John Howard, former governor-general Sir Peter Cosgrove and International Olympic Committee vice-president John Coates.
