Super Rugby Aotearoa is coming back in 2021

The five team, double round robin format will also return - this time with a one off final.

There's potential for some cross-over games afterwards against Australian franchises, but that still need signoff across the ditch.

New Zealand Rugby has pushed out potential expansion until 2022.

It's currently assessing bids from the Moana Pasifika and Kanaloa Hawaii outfits, the Fiji Drua, the Western Force and the South China Lions, based out of Bay of Plenty but with some games in Asia.

A final decision on 2022's makeup is expected by the end of November.
