    Harvey Weinstein is going blind in prison, according to his lawyer

    The disgraced movie mogul is currently in jail, serving a 23-year sentence for third-degree rape and a first-degree criminal sexual act at the Wende Correctional Facility in New York - but in a virtual court appearance, his lawyer was hoping to fight an extradition to Los Angeles on new allegations of sex crimes by sharing news of Harvey's eye and teeth operations


    His legal representative Norman Effman has claimed Weinstein can't head to Los Angeles yet because he needs to have an operation on his eyes as he is almost blind, whilst he is also "scheduled for some dental procedures to save his teeth" too.

    Back in October 2020, Weinstein's lawyers insisted he will die in prison if he is not released.

    His legal team have been campaigning to have him freed from prison, because they think his "chances of surviving" his sentence are "rather low", due to his ongoing health issues, which include diabetic retinopathy, coronary artery disease and spinal stenosis, or pressure on his back nerves, which causes a dragging foot.

    During a hearing, his lawyer Barry Kamins told Judge Angela Mazzarelli: "Weinstein’s physical and mental condition has so deteriorated, I do not think it’s an overstatement to say that if he is not released as part of this application, his chances of surviving in prison are rather low. The defendant is almost blind, and he’s not ambulatory, and he’s on 20 medications."
