Homes and businesses hit by a tornado in Levin yesterday are set to get help as the response and recovery phase kicks in

The twister left around 50 homes damaged, brought down power lines and ripped trees from the ground.

The Horowhenua District Council will now enter and assess buildings, taking safety measures to repair or demolish them.

Initial assessments were completed by Urban Search and Rescue yesterday - with council staff set to now take a closer look.
