An economist says they're flying blind when it comes to anticipating what the Reserve Bank will do with the Official Cash Rate

An economist says they're flying blind when it comes to anticipating what the Reserve Bank will do with the Official Cash Rate

Stats NZ data has the unemployment rate at 4.6 percent in the June quarter -- up from 4.4 percent in March.

It's one factor the Reserve Bank considers, when weighing up whether to cut the Official Cash Rate.

Infometrics principal economist Brad Olsen says there's differing views about when it will cut the OCR.

He says the fact none of them quite know speaks to how inconsistent their messaging has been.
