Snow Patrol star Johnny McDaid feels "lucky" to be in a relationship with Courteney Cox

The 48-year-old musician has been dating the 'Friends' actress since 2013 and he feels grateful to be with someone who is keenly interested in his work and admits Courteney is glad she actually likes his music because it would be awkward if she hated the songs he was producing.

Johnny told The Times newspaper: "I'm lucky with Court because she loves music. She was playing piano this morning, she wants to know all about it.

"She tells me she's lucky to be with someone whose music she likes because she couldn't imagine going to endless gigs by someone whose music she hated."

When asked if the couple "compare notes" on their jobs, Johnny replied: "Yes, because actors go away to make a movie, they have little purview over what happens after they do their bit, and the rest of us get to see it a year later.

"[Snow Patrol singer] Gary [Lightbody] and I go into the room I'm in right now and come out a few hours later with a song. Court is fascinated by that process."

It comes after Courteney revealed the couple split up five years ago after a therapy session but subsequently gave their romance another go.

During an appearance on the 'Minnie Questions' podcast, she shared: "I didn't know it [the break-up] was coming ...

"I'm so thankful for that break-up [now] because when we got back together it was a different relationship, but also because it really taught me how I operated in the world - what were the things from my childhood that I needed."

Courteney - who was married to David Arquette between 1999 and 2013 - went on to reveal self-reflection and therapy have been hugely beneficial for her, adding: "Whether it was to be adored by men. Things that I didn't know how to let go to be in a relationship. To not take things personally. My boundaries, I just went into myself and I had a great therapist."
