New Zealand is feeling the effects of a global orange juice shortage

New Zealand is feeling the effects of a global orange juice shortage

The world's largest grower, Brazil has had its orange yields down by around a third due to drought and disease.

Orange grower and Citrus NZ board member Matthew Carter says for growers here, profits have almost doubled for juicing grade fruit.

He says shortages also come at a time where many Gisborne growers are recuperating from the effects of Cyclone Gabrielle.

Carter says they are starting to recover following a more normal spring and summer last year.
