Food banks across the country are struggling to keep up with demand

The Auckland-based New Zealand Food Network says for the first half of the year on average, the charity can only meet 60 percent of community needs.

Chief Executive Gavin Findlay says that's a 30 percent reduction compared to last year, as costs increase, and so does demand.
