Autumn's officially started, with big temperature drops coming next week

Starting on Monday, significant rain is expected for places along the eastern coastline of both Islands.

MetService Metereologist Alec Holden, says the first big cold front of the season will hit in the Far South late Sunday, making its way up the country, bringing down temperatures by up to ten degrees.

He says winds bringing the cold air from Antarctica, is behind the cold snap.
