Worries after a fleeing driver pursuit in Auckland's Penrose - turned fatal for a member of the public

Worries after a fleeing driver pursuit in Auckland's Penrose - turned fatal for a member of the public

One person died and two others were critically injured in a collision after a speeding car evading police hit two others on Great South Road yesterday.

It's being investigated and has been referred to the Independent Police Conduct Authority.

Maungakiekie-Tamaki Local Board chair, Maria Meredith, says they'll scrutinise the need to chase.

She says she hopes the investigation will shed some light - and give the public reassurances about safety.
