Police have found the bike of a tramper missing on the South Island's West Coast, for almost a week

Roy Arbon was last seen biking from Runanga, to walk up Mount Davy to Mount Sewell, last Wednesday.

The 75-year-old is well-known for his life as former alpine climber, Antarctic worker, Erebus recovery team member and he also responded to the Cave Creek disaster.

Police say the man's red bike has been found after an appeal yesterday.

Search teams will continue looking for Arbon today, despite poor weather.
