Taron Egerton backed out of getting a neck tattoo because his mother didn't approve

The 35-year-old actor had a number of fake inkings applied to his skin for his role as an ex-prisoner in She Rides Shotgun and he liked one particular design so much, he decided to make it permanent

However, when Christine Egerton visited the set and heard of her son's plan, she made her disapproval clear.

Speaking on Late Night with Seth Meyers, Taron said: "Applied daily, took about an hour. I quite enjoyed it. Made me feel very tough."

Of the chilli pepper inking on his neck, he added: "I actually nearly did a crazy thing. I was all ready and booked to get that tattooed on my head on the last day of the shoot, in that spot. I don't know what earth I was thinking actually, but I really was ready to do it.

"But the thing that happened that I hadn't anticipated was the last day of the shoot, my mum was in town.

"The make-up artist had set it up about halfway through the day, and she said, 'You're all set for this evening.' And I just panicked immediately.

"My mum went, 'I beg your pardon?' And I went, 'Well, I'm going to get this tattoo. I've had a really good, really spiritual [time], Mum. I want to commemorate it.' And she did this classic mum thing where she was looking at me and she just [turned away].

    "Panicked, and cancelled it immediately."

The Rocketman actor used his appearance on the show to issue an appeal to singer Benson Boone in the hope of finally being able to impress his two younger sisters.

He said: "Nothing I've done - up until this point - [has impressed my sisters] but I've had an idea and I think there's one thing that could be achieved that would get, particularly my sister Mary, who is 12, to be impressed with me.

"Every time I get on FaceTime to her and I'm like, 'Hi Mary how are you? How's school? Everything good? Anything exciting happening?' And she'll go, 'Do you know Benson Boone?' And I say, 'No, I haven't met Benson Boone since Thursday.' She's like, 'OK. Be good if you knew Benson Boone.'

"So Benson Boone, if you are watching please, please, can me and my little sister come and watch you in concert because then I'll get some cool points."

Taron admitted that even if anything he did actually impressed his siblings, they wouldn't tell him.

He said: "I think even if they were remotely impressed, they would never ever show me, they would never let on because that would give me status and the narrative in the house is that I'm the favourite child.

Host Seth then joked Taron's siblings probably dreamed he had upset their mother by getting the neck tattoo.

He replied: "Their dream is probably that the bad guys do get me."
