The Human Rights Commission believes changes to electoral laws risk deepening distrust in democracy

The Justice Select Committee's hearing public submissions on proposed changes, include scrapping same-day enrolment in a general election.
People would also be required to be enrolled 13 days before election day.
Chief Human Rights Commissioner Stephen Rainbow says young people will be disproportionately impacted.
He says the proposed changes will reverse a long term trend of making it more easy for people to vote.
