Jake Cannavale babysits his dad Bobby Cannavale and stepmom Rose Byrne's bearded dragon

The 30-year-old actor is responsible for feeding crickets to Benny - who is named after 23-year-old singer Benson Boone.

Jake - whose half-siblings are Bobby and Rose's sons, Rocco, 10, and eight-year-old Rafael - told E! News: "You have to dip the crickets in calcium powder and cover them in vitamins so that the bearded dragon will get its vitamins from the crickets.

"My dad took the boys to Disney, so I went over and stayed at the house for a few days and watched the dragon."

Jake even described spending time with Benny as a "very cathartic experience".

The Mandalorian star - whose 59-year-old mom is actress-and-screenwriter Jenny Lumet - explained: "Because he doesn't really know what's going on.

"And sometimes I think, 'Wow, that must be so nice, you're just a lizard, in the desert. You don't even know you're in a cage right now.'"

Jake and Benny have a close bond.

The Scarpetta actor said: "Oh dude, me and Benny are tight. Benny Blue the Bearded Dragon. I love that guy."

Jake said Benny has changed 55-year-old Bobby - who Rose, 46, said missed the Golden Globes in January, to go to a reptile expo to pick out a bearded dragon for Rafael - as a person.

Jake explained: "It's funny because you know my dad hated pets growing up. And now he's being a dad again, and everything sort of has changed, and he loves animals now. It's hilarious."

And Bobby - who had "never had a pet in my life" up until January - relishes being a dad to a bearded dragon.

During an appearance on NBC's The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, he said: "I love this guy, I've got to tell you. He's pretty magnificent! I never dreamed I could love an animal like this.

"But every day now, I just have, like, a little ritual. I take him out at, like, one o'clock. I put him on my chest. We talk ... I talk. And I tell him a lot of things."

Jimmy, 51, quipped: "It's like therapy."

Bobby agreed: "Yeah, I don't have therapy, I don't do pilates or yoga, so it's my moment, my time."
