Hopes the Interislander is able to keep up with school holiday demand

Hopes the Interislander is able to keep up with school holiday demand

Two of Kiwirail's three Interislander ferries are currently out of action, ahead of the two week holidays that start at the end of the week.

The Aratere is under detention in Picton after it ran aground last weekend, and the Kaiarahi is wet docked as it undergoes maintenance.

That leaves only the Kaitaki ferry, but it's sailings have been cancelled from tonight to Thursday morning due to heavy swell warnings, with passengers transferred to alternative dates.

A Kiwirail spokesperson says the Kaiarahi is on schedule to return to service from Saturday..
