Billy Ray Cyrus' ex-wife Firerose wishes she had "run" from him when they first met

The 35-year-old singer and the 63-year-old country music star officially divorced in August, three months after Billy Ray filed legal papers, and Firerose has admitted she wishes they had never met each other

Speaking to Stellar about first meeting Billy Ray when she was just 22, Firerose said: "I couldn't have seen 10 years into the future. When I think about what I just went through, I would have told my 22-year-old self to run in the opposite direction and never look back."

The pair lost touch and reconnected during the COVID-19 pandemic, with Firerose admitting their were red flags from the start.

She said: "He'd say bizarre things like, 'We're going to have this epic love story beyond anything you can imagine. We're going to have twins, and call them Melody and Harmony'.

"All of a sudden, instead of being my normal lively, outgoing self, I became very introverted unless we were working or together in public, where I'd often try to be overly positive as I was scared to let anyone see how devastatingly withdrawn I'd become."

The couple announced their engagement in August 2022 and went on to wed at their farm in October 2023.

Billy Ray filed for divorce in May 2024, with Firerose previously claiming it came just one day before she was due to undergo the first of two planned surgeries for a preventive mastectomy.

In legal papers, she said was diagnosed as a carrier of the BRCA1 gene mutation in early 2020 and her doctors "highly recommended" she undergo the procedure and a breast reconstruction in March, with the singer scheduling her first surgery for May 24.

Billy Ray claimed Firerose has known about being a carrier for the BRCA1 gene mutation for four years, but he was not made aware of it until after their marriage.

Firerose underwent the surgery last month and posted a picture from her hospital bed on Instagram with the caption: "With God on our side we're stronger than we can even imagine.

"Thank you so very much for all the prayers. I deeply appreciate the outpouring of love and support."
