A Coromandel local says the coastline where a person died after falling from a cliff is known to be rocky

One person was found at the bottom of a cliff face at Hahei Beach in critical condition by emergency services just after 8 last night.

They later died at the scene.

A second person was rescued from the cliff - Police have confirmed the two were young people.

Tour boat skipper, Tim Bright says it could be possible they slipped along the coastline.

He says the bush is pretty thick, and the rock structures are quite broken and crumbly.
