New Zealand's economy is growing again, but our largest sector isn't

New Zealand's economy is growing again, but our largest sector isn't

Data from BNZ and Business NZ shows the manufacturing sector has been picking up again, despite higher US tariffs and gas prices.

But the services sector -- which employs almost three quarters of all working Kiwis -- is yet to turn around.

JMI Wealth Director Andrew Kelleher says it's contracted for 17 consecutive months, and employment in the sector has been falling for even longer.

He says it points to an "anaemic economy" since the post-2021 "sugar rush boom".
