Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, has reached out to her father following his emergency leg amputation
Thomas Markle, 81. underwent a three-hour operation to remove his left foot and lower leg earlier this week, after the limb went black as a blood clot stopped blood circulation.

Now a spokesperson for the duchess has confirmed Thomas has received his daughter's note, saying: "Given that a Daily Mail reporter has remained at her father’s bedside throughout, broadcasting each interaction and breaching clear ethical boundaries, it has been exceedingly difficult for the Duchess to contact her father privately, despite her efforts over the past several days.
"With the support of reliable and trusted contacts, her correspondence is now safely in his hands."
Meghan previously won a legal battle with the Daily Mail newspaper after accusing the outlet of publishing extracts from a previous letter she had written to Thomas ahead of her wedding to Prince Harry.
Thomas gave an interview to the publication during his most recent health scare in which he insisted he's open to reconciling with his estranged daughter and meeting his grandchildren, Prince Archie, six, and Princess Lilibet, four.
He told the Daily Mail: "'I've always said I am open to reconciling with my daughter. I have never stopped loving her. I don't want to die estranged from Meghan. I want to meet my grandkids. It might be nice to meet her husband too."
Thomas previous suffered two heart attacks back in 2018 which are said to have prevented him from flying to the UK for his daughter's royal wedding and he also suffered a stroke in 2022.
Thomas now faces weeks of recovery in hospital before he starts rehabilitation therapy to help him learn to walk again.
He told the Daily Mail: "I have always been a very independent man. I don't like the idea of spending the rest of my life in a wheelchair ...
"I have been waking up in the middle of the night and worrying about it. I'm grateful to be alive. But living without a leg is a tough prospect. I'm worried."
