Any weight loss drug roll out in New Zealand - would need to be done carefully

Pharmac has received two applications to fund Wegovy - or semaglutide .

It says guidance is expected to be published this month.

Otago University Nutrition and Medicine Professor, Jim Mann, says it should be only be given to people at very high risk of health issues - like diabetes or heart failure.

He says we don't have the resources in terms of expense as well as nutritional advice - to give the drug to all.
