A group of five riders has threatened to push off the front of the peloton approaching halfway on the 148-kilometre third stage of cycling's Tour of Southland from Riverton to Te Anau

A group of five riders has threatened to push off the front of the peloton approaching halfway on the 148-kilometre third stage of cycling's Tour of Southland from Riverton to Te Anau

Tom Sexton wears the leader's orange jersey, but was not among them.

In a concertina-like movement the pack keeps reeling in attempted breaks.

The first section of the route is relatively flat - there was also some jostling for position through Tuatapere.

The start had a 10-minute delay due to one rider's snapped chain.
