New Year's organisers in Auckland are praying adverse weather won't spoil festivities

New Year's organisers in Auckland are praying adverse weather won't spoil festivities

SkyCity will have a 360 degree symmetrical fireworks display off the Sky Tower at midnight, partnered with a laser light show beamed up the tower.

But the weather around the country is throwing a final curveball for the year, including heavy rain for those celebrating in Gisborne and Hawke's Bay.

SkyCity chief operating officer Callum Mallet seeing if the weather behaves is always stressful for them.

He says it's looking OK for tonight, but any wind over 35 knots isn't ideal.
