Baywatch is set to be rebooted

The hit TV drama series - which previously starred the likes of Pamela Anderson, Alexandra Paul, Jeremy Jackson, Parker Stevenson, David Chokachi, Yasmine Bleeth, and Nicole Eggert - is being revived by Fox and the reboot is set to premiere in 2026.

Michael Thorn, the president of the Fox Television Network, said in a statement: "In its first run, Baywatch defined an entire era of beach life and elevated lifeguards to an iconic status. Now, with our partners at Fremantle, this television juggernaut is set for a modern-day comeback."

The upcoming reboot will be ex ecutive produced by original series' creators Michael Berk, Greg Bonann and Doug Schwartz, as well as Dante Di Loreto. However, no casting announcements have yet been made.

In 2017, Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson starred alongside the likes of Zac Efron, Priyanka Chopra, Alexandra Daddario, Pamela Anderson and David Hasselhoff in a Baywatch movie.

And David - who also starred in the original TV series - revealed that he relished providing advice to the likes of Dwayne and Zac.

He told People in 2017: "When I was on the set, they were incredibly nice, and incredibly respectful, and welcoming, and wanted to know why Baywatch was so successful.

"They were kind of in awe of me, and I was in awe of them, because they're all working in a big way. I've had my shot, and I'm kind of circling around doing this and doing that."

Despite this, David was initially baffled when he first heard of the project.

The actor said: "In the beginning, I didn't get it. I was like, wait a second, Dwayne is playing me, Mitch Buchannon? Or he's not. ... They're just bringing their own personalities into it. It's going to be different.

"It's going to be campy. It's going to be fun.

"The action is going to far be superior to [the original TV series] Baywatch because they've got the movies behind them."
