Alana 'Honey Boo Boo' Thompson has been "banged up" in a car accident

The 20-year-old reality star - who is studying nursing at Regis University in Denver - has been "suffering back pain" and "headache issues" after being "T-boned on the driver's side" while on her way to a hair appointment.

Her mom, June 'Mama June', Shannon, outlined the accident in a video shared to Instagram, explaining how Alana was reversing out of her driveway when she was hit by a 23-year-old man who was going "40 miles per hour", and revealed she was flying out to Denver to help.

She said: "She does have back pain. She is having some headache issues. We are headed to Denver to be able to get her a rental car and to get her set.

"This is what sucks about being 23 hours away."

The 46-year-old star captioned her video with more information about what had happened.

She wrote: "Today is definitely been a crazy day since 3 o'clock. This is what I hate that. Alana Thompson is 23 hours away, but she is following her dreams when you get that phone call and your stomach drops and all you can hear is someone hollering...

"She is at home. She is resting. It could've been a lot worse than it was. She is banged up a little bit but other than that she is OK, first car wreck.

"She was just going to go get her hair done and her phone call was to the police or second phone call was to her clinical director because tomorrow would've been her first day that she would've started clinicals and she still saying that she's gonna get up in the morning and go we will see. (sic)"

Mama June promised to provide further updates once she can "wrap [her] head around this".

She added in the video: "Keep Alana in your prayers and us as we figure all this out."

Alana has yet to speak out about the accident.

Meanwhile, the former Toddlers and Tiaras star previously admitted she didn't know how people would react when realising she was their nurse.

Speaking ahead of starting her studies, she told TooFab: "It's going really, really well. I start my nursing program in June and I'm really excited about that.

"I don't know [what people will think]! I think people will be a bit shocked, like, oh my god, Honey Boo Boo's taking my blood or taking care of my kid. But other than that, I think it'll be fine."
