On a bumpy re-surfaced track Lawson survived the first two cuts while the likes of team mate Yuki Tsunoda , Fernando Alonso, Sergio Perez and Lewis Hamilton all failed to make the Top 10 shoot-out.
The two McLarens will be on the front row, with Oscar Piastri on pole and Lando Norris second...just in front of Ferrari's Charles Leclerc and Red Bull's Max Verstappen.
Norris was incredibly snippy when asked about his fight with Verstappen for the championship on Sky Sport.
