Two UK nationals have been sentenced over a text phishing scam

Two UK nationals have been sentenced over a text phishing scam

Earlier this year the pair were arrested at an Auckland central apartment, where a range of equipment was seized.

At one point they'd sent more than 12-thousand texts in five days - posing as well-known and trusted organisations.

Some victims reported losing up to 100 thousand dollars.

A 19-year-old's been sentenced to two-years in prison - he'll be deported once he serves the time.

His 19-year-old accomplice was sentenced to 400 hours community service, fined, and will leave the country this week.
