Kiwis can expect a sweet start to the season as New Zealand's summer fruit hits stores

Kiwis can expect a sweet start to the season as New Zealand's summer fruit hits stores

Data shows cherry exports totaled nearly 4000 tonnes last year, an increase from the previous three years.

With favourable weather experts are confident there'll be plenty of produce this summer.

Summerfruit New Zealand CEO Dean Smith says it's too early to estimate overseas demand -- but shoppers can be assured this won't be felt until January.

He says a good supply from Hawke's Bay has already hit stores, with Otago's crops coming soon.
