Southerly winds and showers are likely again in many eastern parts of New Zealand this weekend

Southerly winds and showers are likely again in many eastern parts of New Zealand this weekend

MetService is forecasting fine spells for coastal areas today, while showers form inland.

Tomorrow, the South Island's West Coast and the upper North Island look to be the best places to be.

Meteorologist Hodour Thordason says a huge low to the east of the Chatham Islands, is keeping a southerly flow going.

He says the area's in for a nasty spell of southerly gales - and they're looking at issuing a watch or warning.
