A police officer on a motorbike who hit an estimated 190 kilometres an hour during a fatal pursuit, has been acquitted of dangerous driving causing death

His decision making was called into question after the July 2023 incident, when Levi Proctor crashed after fleeing police on State Highway 18's Tauhinu Road off-ramp.

Jurors found the 58-year-old, who has name suppression, guilty of the lesser charge of driving in a dangerous manner.

He'll be sentenced in April - but faces a maximum three months in jail or a four and a half thousand dollar fine.
