Warnings obesity rates are a looming global public health crisis, predicted to sky rocket

Warnings obesity rates are a looming global public health crisis, predicted to sky rocket

A study led by Murdoch Children's Research Institute forecasts a third of children worldwide will be obese or overweight by 2050.

It found Oceania was among regions with the highest increases, and several Pacific nations top the figures.

Massey University's Lisa Te Morenga says if true, our health care costs will blow out, and less people would be able to work.

She says obesity increases the risk of heart disease, diabetes and some cancers.
