Industry leaders are counting the days until a new training model for apprentices and trainees

Industry leaders are counting the days until a new training model for apprentices and trainees

The current national Te Pukenga polytechnic is being replaced by an industry-led structure from the start of next year.

It will mean providers can manage all aspects of training.

Motor Trade Association Head of Advocacy James McDowall says the current model hasn't been successful.

He says Te Pukenga wasn't responsive to changes in technology or skills.
