Inefficiencies with our port sector could risk our export goals

Inefficiencies with our port sector could risk our export goals

BusinessDesk reports international shipping lines have warned lagging productivity and a fragmented port sector will make it tricky to double exports by 2034.

During submissions to an inquiry about the port sector, companies claimed New Zealand had been well regarded as recently as 2018.

Since then they say vessels regularly depart late.

Port companies have cited health and safety rules, schedule reliability and infrastructure consenting delays as contributing issues for lagging productivity.
