Mariah Carey "made peace" with her mother before she passed away

The 56-year-old singer had an "interesting" relationship with her mom for most of her life, but they managed to reconcile their differences before Patricia passed way in August 2024.

Mariah said on CBS Mornings: "I don't know how I processed it, I just know that it was extremely difficult for me to navigate and it was tough because I have always had an interesting relationship with my mother."

Although they had a turbulent relationship, Mariah was by her mother's side at the end of her life.

Mariah's estranged sister, Alison, also died on the same day in August 2024, and the music star admits that it was an incredibly difficult time for her.

Speaking about her mom's passing, Mariah shared: "I with her the whole time. And so I feel better about that. But it was tough.

"And my sister, I hadn't seen in years, and I feel really badly about that as well. But that's because I tend to have a guilt complex about everything. But it's tough, my sister had an extremely hard life."

Mariah was able to find some comfort in the heartfelt conversations she had with her mom before she passed away.

She shared: "She said a lot of things that were very healing for what I needed. And I felt like that was the right thing to do."

Mariah announced the passing of her mom and her sister via a statement given to People in August 2024.

At the time, the singer admitted to feeling heartbroken - but Mariah also felt "blessed" that she was able to spend time with her mom before she passed away.

Mariah said: "My heart is broken that I've lost my mother this past weekend. Sadly, in a tragic turn of events, my sister lost her life on the same day.

"I feel blessed that I was able to spend the last week with my mom before she passed. I appreciate everyone's love and support and respect for my privacy during this impossible time."
