Surging demand has forced a Christchurch high school to stop teaching intermediate years, so it can accommodate more students

Surging demand has forced a Christchurch high school to stop teaching intermediate years, so it can accommodate more students

St Thomas' of Canterbury College will have 685 students this year for the first time.

The Ministry of Education approved an 11 percent increase, on the condition it only teaches Years 9 and up.

Principal Steve Hart says it's a complex process to go through - and the school has to consult other schools, and the Ministry.
