The Southern DHB has spoken - after being told to apologise about a suicidal patient's care

A Health and Disability Commission has released a report into the 2013 incident.

The patient - then in her late teens - was placed in seclusion overnight, with no clothes, pillow or mattress.

Southern DHB's mental health director, Heather Casey, says in this case their processes weren't followed - and they've sincerely apologised to the person involved.

She says it's been a valuable ongoing lesson to staff - in the standard of care that should be provided to the most vulnerable patients.

Casey says they're working towards no more seclusions by next year.
