Parts of the South Island telecommunications network are still down following severe weather

The faults are impacting both broadband and landline services.

On the West Coast, a land slip has damaged close to one kilometre of Chorus fibre as a result of fallen power poles.

The electricity provider in the area is investigating and technicians are on standby ready to start repairs as soon as possible.

On the east coast, around 3,600 homes and businesses are still be without broadband or phone service but work is underway to reconnect them.
