Former Mormon missionary turned gang member sentenced to two months' home detention

A former Mormon missionary turned gang member, has been sentenced to two months' home detention, for his role in a fatal road rage assault in Auckland last year

Viliami Tonga is one of multiple gang members involved in the incident at Point England's Taurima Reserve, which saw Head Hunter Charles Pongi shot dead.

Open Justice reports Tonga had struggled with his mother's death in June last year, and joined Fitus - an Auckland-based gang with ties to the Rebels Motorcycle Club.

Tonga was also on a residency visa, and had asked the judge to discharge him without conviction, over concerns it could hinder his plans to become a citizen -- but this was denied.
